The Allen-Bradley 1747-AIC is an Isolated Link Coupler that can be mounted on a panel. This device has an open enclosure and meets the NEMA standard. The AIC provides an interface converter with a shielded twisted-pair communication module. This module can be employed with SLC 500 devices to provide communication with the DH-485 link. The coupler supports an input voltage range from 20.4 Volts DC to 28.8 Volts DC and draws a current load of 85 milliamperes at a voltage of 24 Volts DC. The 1747-AIC draws a backplane current of 470 milliamperes at a voltage of 5 Volts DC. This device dissipates a thermal power of 2 Watts. The AIC contains a CPU port, a peripheral connection, and a DH-485 communication terminal.
The 1747-AIC has an LED indicator to show the presence of electrical power. This coupler requires either a shielded twisted pair or a Belden cable to be connected with a DH-485 network. The device includes a six-position removable terminal block. The 1747-AIC employs the backplane optical isolation offered by optocouplers to provide electrical isolation of 1500 Volts DC between cables and connected devices to protect and prevent controllers and peripheral devices from damage. This device provides a communication distance of up to 1219 meters (4000 feet). This advanced interface converter is compatible with many SLC processors such as SLC 5/01, SLC 5/03, and SLC 5/02. This AIC operates at a temperature range of zero (0) to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) and weighs approximately 168 grams (0.37 pounds) while shipping.
