The 1747-ASB is an Allen-Bradley Remote Input/Output Adapter Module that is a part of the SLC-500 family. This expansion module is used to establish a link between either the SLC or PLC family of scanners along with various other 1746 Input/Output modules. The remote I/O link is made up of one “head” or “master” device; examples include an SLC or PLC scanner and one or more “slave” or “client” devices that are adapters. The SLC or PLC control device uses an image table and gets I/O module image-mapping straight to its chassis. The image mapping for the Allen-Bradley 1747-ASB SLC-500 Remote Input/Output Adapter Module is able to support both discrete and block transfers. The Allen-Bradley 1747-ASB SLC-500 Remote Input/Output Adapter Module supports half-slot usage as well as one and two slot with a very efficient image usage.
The 1747-ASB is installed with a SLC 500 processor that scans I/O in the chassis. The 1747-ASB has a 375 milliampere backplane current at 5 Volts with 0 milliampere at 24 Volts. The 1747-ASB has a minimum as well as a maximum heat dissipation of 1.875 Watts. Not only does the Allen-Bradley 1747-ASB have many module features, but it has many hardware features as well. The hardware features included with the Allen-Bradley 1747-ASB are LED's and status display, DIP switches, a door label, tabs that lock themselves, slots for cable ties, and an RIO link and Processor Restart Lockout Connector. There are three (3) DIP switches equipped to this product, and they are used to configure multiple aspects of the I/O module. The DIP switches are capable of configuring the starting logical rack number, starting logical group number, the baud rate, adapter image size, hold last state, and the link response time. The door label located on this device provides DIP switch and wiring information, and the self-locking tabs are used to secure the module in place.
