The Rockwell/Allen-Bradley 1764-LRP is included in the MicroLogix 1500 line. The line features controllers for industry that are made of the following components: base units, accessories and processors. This device is a processor. The device dissipates up to 1.9 watt into heat and has a bus current draw of 360 milliampere at 5 volts. The 1764-LRP provides two independent RS-232 communication ports (a built-in isolated 9-pin D-shell one directly on the processor and one on the base unit) that can be used to connect the controller to a DH-485, Ethernet or DeviceNet network. The device may also work as a ModBus RTU slave (only for Series B Processors). It also supports ASCII protocol (only for Series B Processors). This CPU is able to support up to 156 I/Os (counting native ones and the ones coming from Compact expansions I/Os). The device provides 12 kilobytes of memory for the user program and data. A memory area is dedicated to retentive data in order to ensure integrity even in power loss cases.

When it comes to communication, the Allen-Bradley 1764-LRP supports many different communication methods. The communication protocols are carried out using the integrated RS-232 communication port. The Allen-Bradley 1764-LRP comes with support for MicroLogix 1500 programmable controllers. It is one of the best of its kind due to its large memory storage that is suitable for a wide range of applications. When it comes to data and programs, the Allen-Bradley 1764-LRP comes with 14 thousand words of memory. For 1 thousand word programs, this controller unit takes only one millisecond to execute programs. The controller segment on the Allen-Bradley 1764-LRP comes with a run/remote/program mode switch, a communication toggle push button, and logic processing. The Allen-Bradley 1764-LRP serves the purpose of being an interface for the real-time clock, the memory modules, and the connected DATs. To support a maximum of eight I/O modules, this controller unit uses the right assembly unit. Users get an additional connection port with this controller unit that uses 30 volts of DC isolation. Users can configure it differently based on the communication protocol at work. When the battery indicator light turns on, users need to install a backup battery. Once the low battery indicator is lit, the battery has an approximate lifespan of seven days.
