The Rockwell 1764-MM2 is included in the MicroLogix 1500 Programmable Controllers series. This series features programmable controllers whose parts are: processors, accessories and base units. This model is an optional memory module. The main purpose of the module is to provide additional memory for the controller in order to carry out downloads, uploads or transfers of the user application from and to programmable controllers. Only one user program at a time can be stored on the module and, when a transfer is occurring from the memory module, the RUN LED of the controller will flash. With the memory module come memory security, allowing the user to specify that, if the program stored in the controller does not match the ones on the module, the controller should not enter an operational state (S:2/9 bit in the system status file will enable this feature). It is also possible to specify individual files in the controller that should not be overwritten during a download procedure (download protection). The user can also set a write protection for the memory module with a write-once, read-many behaviour. It is important to execute this function with cautions, given the fact that, once the write protection is set, the program on the memory module cannot be removed or changed. If a change will be required, the user will need a different memory module.
