The 1768-ENBT is a module by Allen-Bradley that functions as a communication adapter for CompacLogix racks to communicate with devices over the Ethernet network. It supports CompactLogix 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC). The 1768-ENBT allows data transfer between Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) devices. It also supports inter-controller messaging features to allow for communication with partner controllers.

This module is compatible with industrial-grade Ethernet switches including the Stratix series of managed and unmanaged switches, in addition to other commercially available switches. Not only is the 1768-ENBT fully compatible with the ControlLogix automation platform, but it is also further compatible with a variety of devices including PowerFlex Adjustable Frequency AC Drives, legacy Allen-Bradley 1336 Drives, Bulletin 150 Smart Controller, Kinetix Servo Drives, Motor Starters, as well as other 3rd party devices. The 1768-ENBT features 1 Ethernet port capable of a 10/100 Mbps data transfer rate and auto-negotiation feature. The module connects using Cat 5 or 6 cables with RJ45 connectors.

The module uses the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) to make up to 32 TCP/IP connections enabling up to 64 devices to connect. A 1768-L45 processor supports up to 4 1768-ENBT modules. This unit is connected to a 1768 assembly using just a single slot. The module features multiple status indicators providing information about network status, link status, and device OK status. In order to prevent unsaved data loss, operators are advised to ensure the status indicator lights are extinguished before powering off the 1768-ENBT module.
