The Allen-Bradley 1769-SDN compact DeviceNet scanner module includes an interface which allows to communicate between DeviceNet devices, MicroLogix 1500 and CompactLogix controllers over the network through change of state, strobe, poll, or cyclic I/O messages to read data inputs from or write outputs to slaves, to connect to peer devices (messaging) and to both upload and download applications to the 1764-LRP over a DeviceNet network. The 1769-SDN supports 63 DeviceNet devices. This module can be employed by controllers such as the CompactLogix controller or the MicroLogix 1500 controller. The 1769-SDN scanner module can be employed in several applications mainly in the industrial field. The 1769-SDN module can be mounted on well-grounded panels using two mounting M4 or #8 screws or on either EN 50 022 - 35 x 7.5 or EN 50 022 - 35 x 15 DIN rails. This scanner module dissipates an electrical power of 3.8 watts. The 1769-SDN scanner module has front panel status LED indicators and seven-segment numeric displays which help in troubleshooting and diagnostics establishment. This Allen-Bradley 1769-SDN compact DeviceNet scanner module can be supplied through 1769 Compact I/O power supplies such as PA2, PB2, PA4, PB4 1769 power supplies except when connected to a MicroLogix 1500 base with a current consumption of 440 milliamps at a voltage rating of 5 volts DC. This scanner module has a distance rating of four and should be within four modules of the I/O bank’s power supply. The 1769-SDN Allen-Bradley module can be connected easily to either the controller or to an I/O module. The 1769-SDN module is intended for use in a mainly industrial environment that is clean and dry (Pollution degree 2) and to circuits not exceeding Over Voltage Category II (IEC 60664-1). The scanner module employs up to 246 words input and output data images to send data, status, and command information between this scanner module and the MicroLogix controller to monitor the data flow between the programmable controller and network devices. This scanner module weighs approximately 280 grams (0.61 pounds) while shipping. This Allen-Bradley scanner module operates at a temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit).

The 1769-SDN operates as a CompactLogix DeviceNet scanner communication module. Communication between CompactLogix controllers, MicroLogix 1500 programmable controllers, and DeviceNet devices is made possible through the 1769-SDN communication module. This device has physical dimensions that measure 118 millimeters by 87 millimeters by 35 millimeters. Furthermore, it includes its mounting tabs which measure 138 millimeters. This communication module weighs about 280 grams. It comes with a maximum bus current drawing capacity of 440 milliamperes at 5 volts direct current (DC).

This module operates at a temperature of zero (0) degrees Celsius to sixty (60) degrees Celsius, or the equivalent of thirty-two (32) degrees Fahrenheit to one hundred and forty (140) degrees Fahrenheit. It is important to not store this module within an environment that may be corrosive. Also, the area to be installed should not contain corrosive gas, vapors, dust, etc. The 1769-SDN module has a power rating of four (4). Therefore, this Allen Bradley module cannot be installed at a distance of four (4) modules from the power source. The cable distance between 1769-SDN and the connected PowerFlex module must be 10 meters maximum. The maximum cable length should be 500 baud maximum.

This module can read inputs and write output between slave devices. It communicates with paired devices and loads programs to 1764-LRP-based controllers across a given DeviceNet network. It does not require an external power supply since the backplane supplies energized power to its circuitry. The 1769-SDN installation is carried out by directly injecting to any vacant slot in the assembly.
