The 1771-AF1 is a fiber optic converter that was designed and produced by Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation. This is a stand-alone component that is compatible with PLC (programmable logic controller) 5 controllers. Aside from that, this module enables the transfer of I/O signals between two PLC 5 controllers via a fiber optic cable. Data Highway Plus, or also known as the DH+, support is also included in this unit and there is no significant signal delay being produced during data transfer. The 1771-AF1 fiber optic converter uses light signals to transmit data through fiber-optic cables. Additionally, the signals are converted into electric signals and transmitted through twin axial cables. Furthermore, the signals can be transmitted at distances that range up to 30,000 feet. Moreover, this Allen Bradley fiber optic converter module uses a terminal block in order to connect to other devices. The cables this module uses are pre-terminated and are up to 75 meters (256 feet) in length. Transmission rates of up to 57.6 kilobits per second and 115.2 kilobits per second for duplex fiber optics can be achieved by operators. Additionally, a 5 volts DC external power supply is required for this converter and the configuration this Allen Bradley module uses is Star. This unit has a current load of 1 ampere at 5 volts DC. The enclosure specification is NEMA type 12 and a mounting bracket is included for installation. Indicators for channel information and power are integrated into the 1771-AF1 for troubleshooting and user convenience.
