The 1771-CA3B is an A3B chassis rack backplane cable by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. It is designed to connect PLC 5 modules to the I/O chassis. This connecting cable is from the 1771 product line. Among its various features, this series also provides up to four mounting slots concerning the A3B range, out of which three are used for communication modules while one for power supply modules. In addition, it helps mount either separately or directly to the universal I/O chassis. In particular, the 1771-CA3B backplane is used to connect the 1771-PS7 to the I/O chassis. The mounting of these two units is done vertically, above and within the particular wire feet of the sub connector on the top of the I/O chassis. The size of the CA3B is 1 foot (.33 meters). Aside from that, the PS7 from the 1771 AB Bulletin is a PLC 5 power supply unit that uses AC input for power. One of its primary functions is to provide backplane power for the 1771 I/O chassis. Additionally, users should provide a considerable amount of slack in the cable when connecting it through this cable to prevent stress on the connections placed on the chassis and the power source. Similarly, the manufacturer recommends that users mount the 1771-PS7 to a panel using the rear flanges. Also, it is worth noting that the operators who configure modules using this product should be skilled. The current status of this cable is discontinued by the makers, however, it can still be used as a replacement.
