Allen-Bradley's 1772-ME memory module is a computer memory module. PLC-2/20 and PLC-230 programmable controllers from Allen-Bradley are compatible with this 1772-ME module, which is a volatile memory device developed for use with these controllers. Its primary benefit is that it is extendable since it comes with numerous connectors designated with letters ranging from A to D, in which new memory segments may be plugged in to increase its capacity. The module is installed in the host PLC-2 processor chassis by gently putting it into the rightmost slot on the right side of the chassis.
Before placing this module in its relevant processor slot, it is necessary to connect the extra segments in their respective sockets in order to achieve the required configuration. It is recommended that the first memory segment be inserted in Socket A, the second memory segment be installed in Socket B, and the other memory segments be installed in alphabetical sequence. It is critical to note that all memory segments placed in an Allen-Bradley 1772-ME module must be continuous to one another, and no sockets should be left open between segments that have been successfully installed. Memory modules and their supplementary memory segments include connection pins that have been keyed in order to simplify correct installation with the respective slots and sockets on the motherboard. The main power supply and backup batteries should be disconnected whenever a new memory module or one of its segments needs to be installed or when an old memory module or one of its segments needs to be removed. This will prevent electrical arcs or electrostatic discharge from occurring, which may damage the components.
