Item number 40185-802-01 is an overload relay kit, manufactured by Allen Bradley. This device is to be used with Bulletin 509 Full Voltage NEMA Starters. This product is used for installation on a size 4 starter size devices. Its main application is for protection of overheating in situations of excessive overcurrent. This product is mainly for use with devices such as motors, motor controllers, and power wiring. It is for use with power input ranges from 120 to 600 volts AC, as well as a power rating of 7200 volt-amperes. This unit features trip-free service for restraining contacts and manual closing against overload. Also, it has non-adjustable protectors that prevent unauthorized personnel to change the trip characteristics. The device may not be switched from manual to automatic reset. It has a riveted construction type that makes the unit tamper resistant. Also, the relay is not sensitive to external vibrations or shock because contact pressure is constant up to reaching trip point.    

The 40185-802-01 is a kit, including three parts: an overload relay, a test module, and an overload relay auxiliary contact. The test module, if ordered separately has the part number 40430-459-51 and the auxiliary contact has the part number 595-A34. The test module allows opening of the relay contacts without tripping for test purposes. The auxiliary contact, installed on the left-hand side of the relay, provides a normally open (NO) contact function, and mounted on the right-hand side provides a normally closed (NC) contact function. The device is manufactured from a eutectic alloy material, which provides consistently accurate protection.
