The Spartan 440G-S36044 interlock switch is a positive mode, tongue operated guard locking device that is designed to lock machine guards closed until the power is isolated and continues to be open as the guard remains open. The switch solenoid is rated for 24 volts AC/DC and has two safety contacts that are normally closed and one auxiliary contact that is normally open. The Spartan switch has two entry slots which can be rotated to have four actuator entry points. The unused slots are sealed with a blanking plug provided. The switch guard opens on application of signal to the internal solenoid to release the locking mechanism. This is the reason for using the switch in applications where sudden or unplanned stoppage can be hazardous or disastrously damaging. The locking mechanism can bear forces of up to 1200 N (270 pounds) and has an LED indicating the status of the switch. The locking solenoid is relieved of stress with a catch kit for actuator alignment. This helps extend the life of the switch by reducing damage due to misalignments. In case of a complete power failure, the locked switch can be released with manual points that have security screws or with a special purpose key. The maximum switched current is 500 Volts and the load is 500 Volt-amperes. Thermal current of up to 10 Amperes is permitted. Minimum current rating is 5 milliamperes at 5 Volts DC. The safety contact gap has to be more than 2 millimeters. The rated insulation voltage is 500 Volts and rated impulse voltage is 2500 Volts.
