The 440G-T27171 is a unit that is designed to be a guard locking switch. This guard locking switch is part of the TLS-GD2 series which is a product line manufactured by Allen-Bradley. The TLS-GD2 series of guard locking switches consist of a tongue-operated guard locking interlock with a positive mode. The interlock switch locks a machine, and the guard is locked until power is isolated which is ensured while the guard is open. The 440G-T27171 of the TLS-GD2 series has two (2) safety contacts which are normally closed (NC) and one (1) auxiliary contact which is normally open (NO). The switch should have a voltage supply of 24 volts (V) AC/DC.
The TLS-GD2 series has a head that has two (2) entry slots and the two (2) slots provide four (4) entry points to the actuator by rotating it. To seat the unused slot, a blanking plug is provided. To release or open the guard, a signal should be applied to the internal solenoid of the TLS-GD2 and the signal releases the lock mechanism. Either the signal can be provided via CU1 electronic timer relays or CU2 stopped motion detectors. This makes the TLS-GD2 series ideal for machinery which does not require immediate halting, or the danger of premature interruption would cause hazards by either damage to either tools or components or other additional problems. The units of the TLS-GD2 series consist of three (3) types, which are TLS-1 GD2, TLS-2 GD2, and TLS-3 GD2. Part number 440G-T27171 belongs to the TLS-1 GD2 category of guard switches. Out of the three types, the TLS-1 GD2 and TLS-3 GD2 have the functionality of power-to-release, whereas TLS-2 GD2 has the functionality of power-to-lock.
