Part number 592-BOV16 is 40 amperes, 3-pole thermal overload relay designed and manufactured by Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation for the protection of electric motors, their controllers, and power wiring from overcurrent induced overheating. This overload relay, which is equipped with an open-type enclosure and has a normally closed (NC) contact, is designed for installation and wiring away from contactor modules and requires either 1 or 3 heater elements. It is UL 508 and CSA22.2, No. 14 compliant, as well as UL listed and CSA certified. A single normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) auxiliary contact can be added to the thermal overload relay as a replacement for the contact test module. This overload relay uses either a type W191, class 20, one (1) of three (3)-phase, three elements heater, or, alternatively, a J187, class 10, one (1) or three (3)-phase, 3 elements heater. The J42 class 10 heater element will trip in 10 or less seconds at currents equivalent to 600 percent of its rated 40 amperes value, while the W68 class 20 heater element type will trip at 20 or less seconds at 600 percent of the rated 40 amperes current value. 592-BOV16’s J187 heater element finds its application in electric motors having short-locked rotor time function, in submersible pumps, as well as in hermetic motors. On the other hand, the overload relay is designed to detect changes in motor ambient temperature and protect it within a range of temperatures. Additionally, the rating of the overload relay at +40 degrees Celsius is 115 percent of the full load current.
