Part number 592-JOV16 is an overload relay belonging to Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley. The main features of this device consist of manual reset, eutectic alloy, and a thermal type of overload. Its application for short circuit protection is in motors, motor controllers, and power wirings. The relay protects against overheating caused by excessive overcurrent. All 592-JOV relays or Bulletin 592 block type relays have an optical indicator installed that turns on when the relay has been tripped. The relay is also provided with a manual contact test module and one can add one (1) Normally Open (N.O.) or Normally Closed (N.C.) auxiliary contact in the field but it physically replaces the contact test module.

The Bulletin 592 overload relay remains the same for all three trip classes i.e., 10, 20, and 30, as well as for each starter size. That means that the user doesn’t need to change the overload relay. The user only needs to change the heater element chosen with respect to trip current ratings which are twenty-four (24) amperes, thirty-two (32) amperes, forty (40) amperes, sixty-two (62) amperes, one hundred and twenty-five (125) amperes, and one hundred and sixty-five (165) amperes depending on which 592 series relay is chosen. It also means that even while pressing the reset button, the user will have overload protection. This is called a trip-free mechanism. The Bulletin 592 overload relay normally requires three heater elements to function, but it can have a single heater element for it to function. The Bulletin 592 overload relay has 3 poles and is an open & compact type with Normally Closed contacts.
