The Allen-Bradley 808-M4 is a speed sensing switch. It is used to detect the speed and direction of rotation. It uses magnetic coupling to increase reliability. It has a sealed outboard bearing as well as an extra seal. It has normally open contacts with a maximum supported shaft speed of 2000 rotations per minute. This module can be used for plugging, by which it stops a motor rapidly. Another available feature is anti-plugging, whereby it allows the machine to coast to a stop with applications such as flywheels. The speed sensing feature allows it to detect the approximate rotational speed of a moving shaft above 15 rpm. It is available in Type 1, Type 4, and Type 13 enclosures. It has a range of adjustments between 50 and 1000 rpm. It has a shipping weight of 6 pounds (2.7 kilograms). The maximum radial shaft loading for this unit is 50 pounds (222 Newtons) with a maximum axial thrust load rating of 20 pounds (89 Newtons). The timing belt tension should not be greater than 25 pounds (111 Newtons). The maximum driving torque is rated at 6 pounds per inch (0.68 Newton-meters). The temperature rise at maximum rpm is 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius). The contact ratings for NEMA B600 have a maximum DC voltage range of 115 to 125 Volts with a current rating of 0.12 amperes and 230 to 250 Volts with a current rating of 0.08 amperes. The maximum AC voltage rating is 600 volts with a make current of 6 amperes and a break current of 0.6 amperes.
