Description:
The Allen Bradley 809-A12E is an instantaneous trip current relay. An instantaneous relay gets its name because it trips the circuit as soon as the rated trip current. In the case of this unit, the trip current is 56 amperes. This relay is used where there is high coil current. The supply voltage rating of this Allen Bradley device is rated at 600 volts AC (alternating current). Additionally, it has a rated frequency range of 50 to 60 hertz.

The 809-A12E instantaneous trip current relay is a part of the Allen Bradley Bulletin 809 series of products. A simple relay is a switch that can open and close a circuit electrically, as well as electro mechanically. An instantaneous relay is a type of relay for which there is no delayed response except for the necessary time required for the trip relay to act. The current passes through the coil, which is a conductor, and it takes a certain amount of time to reach the trip relay and time for the mechanical movement of the armature in the relay. All of this usually takes less than 0.1 second. Other than that, the system instantly trips, and the circuit is broken. A trip current is the value of current at which the device is bound to trip or in other words break the circuit. For this instantaneous trip relay, the current trip value is 56 amperes. This 809-A12E provides an over current protection. The industries, manufacturing companies, and other plants that use expensive heavy machinery need protection and safety. Adding a small over current protector like this instantaneous current trip relay can cost thousands in components. In rare cases, a small step towards safety can prevent a dangerous accident. These relays are used where the fault current is very high and even a small delay in trip signal can cause some drastic damage to the equipment or circuit. The input voltage is limited to a maximum of 600 volts in an AC supply. The frequency range of this device is 50 to 60 hertz.
