Part number AK-R2-360P500, which was designed and manufactured by Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation, is a brake resistor device. This unit was designed for use with PowerFlex AC drives. This device is an external dynamic brake meant for medium duty applications. Its purpose is to provide bigger duty cycle capability, comparing to the internal type of break resistors. The AK-R2-360P500 item is a kit that, together with the break, also includes integral thermal switch. This feature allows it to be used in external safety circuits. The brake is for use with three-phase voltage input drives rated at 400 to 480 volts AC and 500 to 600 volts AC. The users should be aware for safety reasons, during operation, the resistor temperature increases and may reach over 200 degrees Celsius, or the equivalent of 392 degrees Fahrenheit.

The device has a dynamic break resistance of 360 ohms, plus or minus five (5) percent. When selecting the resistor, it is important to choose a resistor ohms value against the minimum resistance of the drive used. The break's rated continuous power is 0.086 kilowatts, and it has a maximum energy of 17 kilojoules. This module is suitable for applications with PowerFlex 4, 40, 40P, 70, 527, and others from the family of drives that have power ratings of 0.37, 0.75, and 1.5 kilowatts (0.5, 1, 2 horsepower). The maximum breaking torque varies with the motor model and power rating. For PowerFlex 70 drives, the break can provide breaking torque from 110 to 305 percent of the ND motor. This device has dimensions of 13.19 inches x 2.36 inches x 1.18 inches (335 millimeters x 60 millimeters x 30 millimeters) and weighs approximately 2.75 pounds (1.25 kilograms).
