The 440J-N21TNPM-NP, which was designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation, is an enabling switch. The Allen-Bradley Guardmaster safety enabling switch is a hand-operated, grip-style enabling device that is part of the 440J series. Two 3-position switches referred to as the trigger switch, are located below the rubber boot. During the mid-position of the actuator's movement, the contacts of the switch are closed (partly depressed). The contacts, on the other hand, stay open throughout the transition from completely pushed to release. In most cases, the model with the normally open (NO) contact is employed to perform a jog or reset function. However, the design of the safety system must only permit the operation of the jog or reset function when the trigger switch is in the middle of the range of movement. There are two normally closed (NC) contacts in the contact setup of this device.
The advantages and characteristics of this switching device include operating force positions 2 and 3, which are roughly 15 N each, a maximum direct opening force of 90 N, and a maximum actuation frequency of 1200 operations per hour. Position 3 has a maximum direct opening force of 50 N. This device has an IP65 certification, and the material used for the housing is polyamide. With the addition of two screws, the right-angle bracket may be attached to the 440J allowing the switch to allow for horizontal placement. It is also possible to attach an actuator for vertical usage without the need for a bracket.
