The W58 is a heater element produced by Allen-Bradley. This component is part of the Bulletin 592 and is compatible with line starters offered in the Bulletin 100, 500, 609, and 1200 series of products. This component is a heater element made out of eutectic alloys and is rated for operation under Class 20. Overload relays in this classification will trip within 20 seconds when the current limit is exceeded. Overload relays using this heater element are designed to be used in general user applications. The overload relay detects the change in the ambient temperature which is common to the motor and controller. Motor output depends on the ambient temperature in the application environment. Operations in high temperature environments require motor de-rating in order to prevent shortening the insulation life. The heater element allows the overload relay to protect the motor during operation in environments that have a variety of temperatures. The full load current for the motor can be determined by looking at the motor nameplate. The selection of the heating element also depends on the ambient temperature in the application environment, as well as the variation in the temperature during motor operation. The current limit for this unit is equal to 600 percent of its rating. This heater element has a full load current rating of 18.3 amperes. For W Type heater elements, the relay rating is approximately 115 percent of the full load rating specification. This specification is valid at a temperature of +40 degrees Celsius (+104 degrees Fahrenheit).
