The IC697PCM711 is a single slot Programmable Coprocessor module manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation for the 90-70 Series of modules. It is equipped with a dual-tasking module that can be configured to perform functions like operator interface, real-time computations, and data functions including communication, storage, and acquisition. Communication between the PLC CPU and the IC697PCM711 module can be done through the backplane and doesn’t require any application program. A single IC697 PLC system can support multiple Programmable Coprocessor modules and can accommodate a memory expansion of 512 Kilobytes. The IC697PCM711 module’s operation can be done with or without using an expansion memory daughter board. The base memory of the module contains a maximum of 95 Kilobytes of user memory. The expansion memory board allows the expansion of data or program memory by 64, 128, 256, or 512 Kilobytes.

The IC697PCM711 module’s power requirement is 1 Ampere, derived from the 5 Volt bus. The lithium battery of the module is located conveniently on the baseboard housing and it also supports memory. The shelf life of the battery is 10 years at 64 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 degrees Celsius. The module can retain the memory for about six (6) months without applying any power. Before removing the old battery, it is important that a new battery is installed. The IC697PCM711 module can be programmed and configured with different computer types like IC640, IC647, or IBM-compatible XT, PC, or AT with PCM development software. The software is used for constructing parameters for the serial port. The two ports are compatible and act simultaneously. The module doesn’t require dip switches or jumpers but the board needs to be configured by using PCM software before beginning the operation.
