The IC697PWR720 power supply adapter, or PSA, is a member of the Series 90-70 line of products. This device was designed and manufactured by Emerson - GE Fanuc. The ability to connect the external current source to the IC697 rack along with a simple connection to the current supply are the key characteristics of this adapter. The IC697PWR720 can be inserted into a readily available slot. It does, however, require a wire to connect it to an external power source. Operators can use the IC697 module which would aid in supplying current to this module or you can use any other power supply, as an external source of electricity. The PSA module connects to the backplane rack through an external current supply unit that produces five (5) and twelve (12), along with negative twelve (-12), volts of direct current (DC) outputs. This is also applicable for 5 volts remote sensing. The highest currents delivered to the backplane by this adapter are 18 amperes at 5 volts, 2 amperes at 12 volts, and 1 ampere at -12 volts. The IC697PWR720 examines the 5-volt output of the external power source, as well as the TTL-compatible Input Power OK signal. The TTL helps by pointing out whether the input voltage of the external current source is sufficient to maintain the timeout for a smooth system shutdown. The external current supply should give operators sufficient hold-up time, which must be at least 5.05 milliseconds to ensure a correct shutdown of an ordered system in case the power supply gets interrupted.
