When setting up the drive, mounting must be to a surface that is metallic. Electrical wiring of the drive may be facilitated with a direct connection to a one or three-phase alternating current power line. Nevertheless, malfunction of the drive input power may still occur in some power line conditions. In order to minimize this possible problem, it may be necessary to connect the drive with a line reactor or isolation type transformer having an input impedance of 3% of the drive input volt-ampere rating. Interference is minimal since the device is specifically designed to ensure no interference from external sources. However, supplementary surge protection is advised if the geographic location has chronic lightning strikes. Should there be nearby sensitive electrical devices, the ground and power to the drive must be wired in a specific arrangement. The electrical wiring for the motor must be placed away from such sensitive electrical devices. Radio frequency emissions on main supply lines may be minimized by using a radio frequency filter. Installation of the device is flexible to accommodate numerous cable types. The majority of installations may be done with an unshielded cable. However, it must be placed away from sensitive electrical devices. A general rule of thumb is to allow 1.1-foot spacing for every 11 feet of length but avoid any long parallel runs. However, if the sensitive electrical devices are directly connected to the machines driven by the drive, a cable that is shielded is recommended. Two grounds should be connected, both the drive ground and motor frame ground.
