The Allen-Bradley 1398-PDM-030 is a ULTRA Plus PDM motion control system used for positioning drive systems by combining an advanced sinusoidal brushless motor velocity controller and a programmable position controller together. It uses a fast microprocessor to handle position and velocity simultaneously. By integrating the two systems, the product removes common issues of analog circuits such as offset or thermal drifting. The digital closed loop control also allows for data acquisition and logging. The system consists of positioning drive module that controls the position, velocity and torque of the motor, personality module to match the controller with the connected motor, a brushless motor for optical encoder feedback, power supply module, and operator terminal. The 1398-PDM-030 has passed all EMC tests. It shows sensitivity to radiated fields of 10 V/m in the encoder feedback circuit. Its current rating is single phase 28 Amperes. The peak output current is 30 Amperes and continuous output is 15 Amperes with 3 kW power rating. The line input voltage is 100 to 240 Volts AC with continuous shunt power of 50 Watts and peak shunt power of 4.5 kW. The external continuous shunt is 2.4 kW and peak is at 6 kW. In addition to the dissipative shunt, the drive has a maximum power loss of 150 Watts. The unit weighs 15 pounds (5 kilograms) and is functional in the range of 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to 50 degrees Celsius). It can be stored over a temperature range of -40 to 176 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 80 degrees Celsius).
