Part Number 20AD-DB1-D is a dynamic brake resistor for PowerFlex 70 adjustable frequency AC drives. This device is operational up to an input power voltage supply rating of four hundred and eighty (480) volts alternating current (AC). This resistor only supports small duty dynamic braking of attached AC drives. This dynamic braking resistor is internally mounted, and it does not require any extra panel space, as it can be simply mounted directly to the back surface of the AC drive. This resistor is non-destructive and features a limited duty cycle. It does not require a resistor overheating external safety circuit. This brake resistor performs its action by converting the electrical energy produced as a result of regeneration into thermal energy. It is a very cost-effective solution. This drive is parallel to the freewheel diode in the dynamic brake assembly and dissipates any regenerated energy into heat. The wire connection with this internal dynamic brake resistor should be twisted to minimize inductance.
The Allen-Bradley 20AD-DB1-D dynamic brake resistor operates at an input voltage range of four hundred (400) to four hundred and eighty (480) volts alternating current (AC). If this internal resistor is not sufficient enough, then an external brake resistor should be used in combination. This dynamic brake resistor has a maximum energy rating of 0.8 kilojoules (kJ), a continuous power supply of 36 watts (W), an operational input 380 to 480 volts AC supply, a frame size of D, a brake resistance rating of 62 ohms, and has KC certification.
