The Ethernet/IP protocol network features both the Internet Protocol Suite and IEEE 802.3 standard. This networks allows Internet and enterprise connectivity in industrial automation applications. Given the application of SLC 500 controllers in industrial automations, such controllers can be configured with modules to provide Ethernet/IP connection. Amongst the available adapters for this family of controllers, part number 1747-AENTR is an Ethernet/IP adapter which enables various Logix-based processors to control input / output modules of SLC 500 programmable controllers. Ethernet/IP is an industrial network protocol that adapts the common industrial protocol (CIP) to standard Ethernet. By configuring the 1746 chassis with the 1747-AENTR adapter, a gateway can be established between the Ethernet/IP network and the SLC backplane. This allows the control of backplane I/O with CompactLogix or ControlLogix through an Ethernet/IP router. This adapter can also support messaging data for configuration and programming information. In SLC 500 systems, the 1747-AENTR adapter can replace the existing processor on SLC 500 to provide communication with CompactLogix or ControlLogix processor. The dual Ethernet/IP communication ports, which can provide 10 megabits/second or 100 megabits/second connection speed, connects the 1747-AENTR adapter to the Ethernet/IP network. These ports are classified as embedded switches which can accommodate connection of verity of Ethernet topologies such as star, tree, linear, and ring. Category 5 shielded or unshielded cables are suitable for use with this adapter module. The 1747-AENTR adapter has an isolation voltage rating of fifty (50) volts, and it draws four hundred and seventy (470) milliampere current at five (5) volts DC.
