The Allen-Bradley 1769-SM1 Input/Output to DPI/SCANport module includes a Compact I/O link for three DPI devices or SCANport devices such as 1305 and 1336 drives or Allen-Bradley power products such as PowerFlex® 7-class drives. This Allen-Bradley module can be employed by controllers such as the CompactLogix controller or the MicroLogix 1500 controller or a remote 1769-based adapter such as the 1769-ADN DeviceNet adapter. The 1769-SM1 I/O to DPI/SCANport module can be employed in several applications mainly in the industrial field. The 1769-SM1 module can be mounted on well-grounded panels using two mounting M4 or #8 screws or on either EN 50 022 - 35 x 7.5 or EN 50 022 - 35 x 15 DIN rails. The 1769-SM1 module has four front bi-color (red/green) status indicators which show the status of this module and help in troubleshooting and diagnostics establishment. This Allen-Bradley 1769-SM1 compact I/O to DPI/SCANport module automatically detects the DPI or SCANport Host connected to a channel, and sets proper bauds to the Host’s data rate. The Allen-Bradley 1769-SM1 is able to store parameters and other information in its own non-volatile memory. This Allen-Bradley 1769-SM1 module can be supplied through 1769 Compact I/O power supplies such as 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4, 1769-PB4 power supplies except when connected to a MicroLogix 1500 base with a current consumption of 280 milliamps at a voltage rating of 5 volts DC. This module has a distance rating of 6 and should be within six modules of the I/O bank’s power supply. The Allen-Bradley 1769-SM1 module can be connected easily to either the controller or to an adjacent I/O module before or after mounting. The 1769-SM1 module is intended for use in a mainly industrial environment that is clean and dry. This module weighs approximately 142 grams (0.31 pounds) while shipping. This Allen-Bradley module operates at a temperature range of -10 degrees to 50 degrees Celsius (14 degrees to 122 degrees Fahrenheit).

The 1769-SM1 module by Allen Bradley can be incorporated with MicroLogix 1500, CompactLogix, or with a remote-based adapter 1769-AND. Compact I/O backplane provides the power to 1769-SM1. The module has the capability to automatically detect the DPI or Scanport host connected with the channel. It autobauds the Host's data rate. There are many configuration tools available to configure the module and connected drives. I/O messaging including four bi-directional pairs of datalinks for each channel with Logic Command/Reference can be configured for an application using the module parameter. The controllers like MicroLogix 1500 LRP series C, CompactLogix 1769-L32E, and CompactLogix 1769-L35E support explicit messaging (read/write). The controller's response when it is in idle mode is determined by the user-defined fault actions. The red and green indicators show the status of the module and channel communication. The Compact I/O power supply has limits between 5 volts to 24 volts DC. It has a distance rating of 6, which is the reason to keep the power supply of the I/O bank within 6 modules. The 1769-SM1 module cannot sustain in certain environmental conditions like where there is corrosive gas, vapors, or dust in the atmosphere. The operating temperature for this module is 10 to 50 degrees Celsius. Additionally, this module has physical dimensions that measure 118 mm x 87 mm x 35 mm.
