Allen-Bradley 1771-ASB is a Universal Remote I/O Adapter Module manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation as part of the PLC 5 product line. This module interfaces with I/O modules in 1771 I/O chassis through a remote scanner port for the processor over input and output link. Using this device instead of direct wiring helps to reduce the cost of installation, startup, and maintenance by the input and output being closer to sensors and actuators. Allen-Bradley 1771-ASB module supports Pass-Through and uses the Ethernet, ControlNet, and DH+ networks to communicate. It is well-matched and compatible with the 32 I/O-adapter devices through the I/O link and also uses 82 or 150W termination. It also has a communication rate of 57.6 kilobytes per second and 230 kilobytes per second with a weight of 1.9 pounds. Other specifications of this module include a backplane current load of 1 ampere at 5 Volts DC and 5.2 watts of maximum power dissipation, and the drive requires a remote I/O adapter port for connection.
For installation, the Allen-Bradley 1771-ASB module must be mounted on the left slot of the 1771 chassis with I/O modules controlled by the PLC-5 processor. The 1770-CD Belden 9463 or equivalent cable is the best wiring cable recommended. Allen-Bradley 1771-ASB module features indicators for Adapter Fault, Active status, and I/O Rack fault. It also comes with two switch assemblies, as well as a field wiring arm. This offers quick transmission of data and backplane scanning of up to 2500 feet at 230.4K Baud.
