The 1794-APB is an I/O communication adapter. This adapter should be installed on a Profibus DP network. This communication adapter helps to establish a connection between the Profibus DP controller and the FLEX I/O backplane. For collecting input signals, the 1794-APB FLEX I/O communication adapter uses the embedded backplane. After the signals have been collected and labeled, it transfers them to the DP master controller using the Profibus DP network.

The 1794-APB requires a nominal voltage input of 24 volts direct current (DC). There are a total of 2 indicator LEDs on this module. When operating at full capacity, this module can exchange data at 12 megabytes per second. One of the LED indicators is used for showing the status information, and the other one for showing the status of the Profibus controller. Both of these LEDs can change between red & green.

The 1794-APB can operate at an isolation voltage of 850 volts direct current. Its dimension measure 3.4 inches x 2.7 inches x 2.7 inches (height x width x depth). At 19.2 volts direct current, the power dissipation rating for this controller module is 7.68 watts. The thermal dissipation rating for this controller is 26 BTU/hr. At 5 to 500 Hz, this controller module can absorb an operational shock of 5G, as well as a non-operational vibration shock between 30 and 50G. The terminal screw torque for this controller is 0.8 Nm. 

The 1794-APB should be connected with a Profibus network. It is a type of I/O Flex communication adapter. This adapter can establish communication between the Profibus DP scanner controller and the FLEX I/O backplane. This controller is a master controller module from the Flex I/O line of systems. It is also deployed as a slave controller for DP scanner & master modules. For faster data exchange, the 1794-APB receives data from the connected master/scanner controller over the connected Profibus DP network. The 1794-APB sends the received data to the output module over the connected FLEX I/O backplane.
