The Allen Bradley 1797-CEC should be used to connect I/O and Ex modules from the same line of industrial products. It comes with several advanced feature such as a module locking tab, a removable power connector, power indicators, a FLEX Ex backplane connector, a FLEX I/O back plane connector, a FLEX Ex back plane connector cover, and a master backplane connector. It deploys an IS-compatible mechanism to separate the two different sections of the industrial backplane. It can be used to provide wiring between IS and non-IS field devices. However, these I/O modules must belong from the same group of industrial components.
The Allen Bradley 1797-CEC can successfully convert hazardous power to IS-safe power. It should be mounted on a DIN rail (35 x 7.5 millimeters). It can be connected with a FLEX I/O module or an adapter. Instead of mounting this module in between the FLEX I/O modules, it should be mounted on the right side of the FLEX I/O module. Similarly, while removing this module, you should start from the right side. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to separate this module from the base unit. Turn the screwdriver 1/4 turn and when it comes off, slide the base unit towards the right side. Release pressure on the locking lever and it will smoothly separate the module from the DIN rail. To provide ground safety, the 1797-CEC comes with integrated intrinsic safety measures. For proper and solid grounding, try to use a zinc plated yellow-chromate steel DIN rail with this Bus Isolator and Flexbus Connector. DIN rails made out of plastic or aluminum can easily corrode or oxidize.
