The 150-C84 is a 480V protection module that is derived from the smart motor controllers (SMC)-3/D series and is designed to be used with the smart motor controllers 150-C43 to 37NB or D3 to 64NB, respectively. Soft starters based on a microprocessor, such as the SMC controllers, are intended to enhance the effectiveness of motor starting and stops. The 150-C84 controller is intended for the control of three-phase motors. These motors are equipped with built-in overload protection and make use of six (6) silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs), two (2) of which are used per phase to regulate the conduction time and the voltage, and therefore the torque, supplied to the motor during startup, running, and stopping.

Featuring a present level of 3 to 480 amps and a rated voltage range of 200 to 690 volts AC at 50 to 60 hertz, the 150-C84 can handle a wide variety of applications. Aside from that, this module has five (5) different start and stop modes, as well as an electronic motor overload safety built-in. This 150-C84 unit contains a hold to test/push to reset button, which makes it simple and safe to configure micro switches on this board. It also has a thyristor bypass/run contactor that is built-in. Additionally, it has a workbench for programming with associated components. A wide range of applications, such as compressors, chillers, pumps, conveyors, and grinders, are well suited for this device. Among the characteristics of this controller is an electronic overload with an adjustable trip class. Soft start, current limit start, selectable kick start, coast-to-rest, and soft stop are some of the operating modes available to users.
