The 193-DNENCATR device manufactured by Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation is an Ethernet/IP communication auxiliary. It allows for devices that are primarily DeviceNet based such as Bulletin 825-P overload relay and Bulletin 592, E3, or 193 overload relay, to effectively communicate on Ethernet/IP network. For optimum operation, the device has a rated temperature which can easily be de-rated if the device is not mounted vertically with an allowance of 37.4 millimeters (1.5 inches) at the top and bottom of the device as to allow for free flow of air thus providing some cooling effects. This Ethernet/IP communication auxiliary can be either panel or DIN rail mounted.

The device is a dual type having RJ-45 ports that allows connection between straight male RJ-45 to straight male RJ-45 patch cord that is shielded with a foil and braid with a material type of polyvinyl chloride whose voltage rating is 600 volts. It has a length of 1.9 meters. Even so, all forms of DeviceNet cable are applicable with the communication auxiliary, however it is recommended that a shielded cable be normalized. The device supports both the ring Ethernet and the star Ethernet topology. In the Ring type arrangement, formation of network ring is by wiring the Ethernet nodes in series to each other, whereas for star topology, the Ethernet nodes are connected to the central switch.

The device has been tested and approved by the Underwriter Laboratories as it meets the industry-wide standards. The device is also CSA certified thus meets all performance and safety requirements of the American standards. Even so, it is necessary to ensure that the power supply for the Ethernet/IP communication auxiliary certifies the NEC Class 2 requirements.
