Part number 509-AOD is an open-type full voltage motor starter that belongs to the Bulletin 509 product series. It requires a three (3)-phase power source with a rated current of eighteen (18) amperes and a voltage range of 600 volts. It has a power rating of 1.5 Hp (horsepower) at 230 volts, 2 Hp at 380 to 415 volts, and 2 Hp at 460 - 575 volts. It is equipped with a 120-volt alternating current coil, one no auxiliary contact, and a eutectic overcurrent relay. This alternating current magnetic contactor is designed for use with motor control systems that comply with Bulletin 509. With a NEMA size of zero, this starting unit provides 110 volts AC at 50 hertz and 120 volts AC at 60 hertz rated voltage and frequency. The overload relay is built of eutectic alloy and is available in an open configuration without an enclosure.

According to the standards stated in IEC 947-4, its load-life curve is based on Allen-Bradley's crated testing.
