The Allen-Bradley 509-BOD is full-voltage starter manufactured by Rockwell Automation and is a non-reversing motor starter that belongs to the Bulletin 509 Series motor controls. It is a three-phase starter that operates on 110 volts of alternating current at a frequency of 50 hertz. It is mostly used along with all Bulletin 500 MCCs and Motor Control Assemblies. The starter has three poles with a current rating of 27 amperes. The rated power of the starter during operation is 7.5 Horsepower. The starter is designed for full-voltage starting of polyphase squirrel-cage motors. It is equipped with remote controls, pushbuttons, thermostats, pressure switches, float switches, limit switches, snap switches and other suitable wired pilot devices. The enclosure is of open type and has a feed-through construction to allow the starter to be top wired. A eutectic alloy overload relay is provided as overload protection.
The Allen-Bradley 509-BOD starter is best suited for constant horsepower, constant torque or variable torque type three-phase motors. The National Electrical Manufacturer Association size of the starter is 1. The power contacts are made from a silver alloy and auxiliary contacts are made from silver. The operating temperature ranges between –13 degrees Fahrenheit to 149 degrees Fahrenheit (–25 degrees Celsius to 65 degrees Celsius). The operating position of the starter is vertical and the operating altitude is 10,000 feet before derating. All metal parts are treated for corrosion resistance. The starter measures 90.5 millimeters in width, 193 millimeters in height, 113 millimeters in depth, and weighs about 3 pounds (1.4 kilograms).
