The 599-K04 is a part of the Allen Bradley Surge Suppressor 500 line of contactors and starters. A surge suppressor is also called a spike suppressor or a surge protector. It is essentially a box type device that is attached to an alternating current utility line or a telephone line to protect the electronic components from unexpected voltage spikes, also known as transients. To be more precise, we can say that the device prevents transients and is a transient suppressor. These spikes, or transients, can cause permanent equipment damage. Typically, a surge protector is a small box with several utility outlets, a power switch, and a 3-wire cord for plugging into a wall outlet. According to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) that sets the standards for electrical products, the 599-K04 ranges from size 0 to 5 on the NEMA size scale. This means the surge suppressor can range somewhere between 0 and 0.5 square inches. The rated voltage range of this surge protector is between 12 volts AC (alternating current) to 120 volts AC (alternating current). This surge suppressor comes with a Bulletin 500, Bulletin 500F and Bulletin 509 Open Line Modular Kits. This surge suppressor can be bought separately, and it also comes with modular kits. Typically, a kit consists of a 120 volts AC coil, an auxiliary contact, and a terminal shield (load side). This transient suppressor mounts right on top of the coil. Some certificates and standards, such as CCC, CE, KC, and UL, are given to the Allen Bradley 599-K04.
