The ProSoft Technology's MVI56E-MCM works as input and output modules on compatible backplane. It converts Modbus data to I/O data to communicate with the processor. It is compatible with Rockwell Automation ControlLogix processors and Modbus RTU/ASCII devices. Each module has the ability to be configured as either a Master or Slave. The input or output choice is available on the module. MVI56E-MCM operates on the ControlLogix backplane and transfers Modbus data as I/O data to the processor. The modules are backward-compatible with previous MVI56 modules making it easy for upgrading without major disruptions. The units have a ten thousand 16-bit registers data capacity to boost system efficiency. Also, the addition of new optimized features and flexibility is possible without any need of repeat programming which can be resource intensive.

It is easy to add a module in a project. The module is equipped with a standard Ethernet port for accessing network for the purposes of setup and troubleshooting. It has a 4-character, scrolling, alphanumeric LED display to communicate the status and errors in plain English. Under Slave configuration the MVI56E-MCM module accepts Modbus function code commands from an attached Modbus Master unit. As a Master, MVI56E-MCM can actively issue up to 325 Modbus commands to other nodes on the network per port. The Master ports also have an optimized polling feature to reduce frequency for Slave ports with communication errors.
