The Allen-Bradley 1756-ENBT is a versatile communication module that can control I/O modules and drives, act as an adapter for I/O on remote EtherNet/IP links, communicate with other EtherNet/IP devices (messages and HMI) and bridge EtherNet/IP links to route messages to devices on other networks. The copper-based communication module is capable of transfer rate of 5000 packets per second (I/O) and 900 packets per second (HMI and MSG) via Ethernet. The SNMP supported (with password) unit has 64 TCP and 128 CIP (equal backplane and Ethernet) connections and 10 / 100 megabytes per second transfer rate. The 1756-ENBT module can perform internal diagnostics and edit settings including IP traffic, TCP, UDP, collision histogram, and connection management with a web browser. It can also collect data history of IP, subnet, revisions, gateway, Ethernet address, module uptime, vendor, code information, diagnostic information, server IDs, boot status, 1756-L1 processor module information, and network storms.

The module power supply requirements are 5.1 Volts DC at 700 milliamperes and 24 Volts DC at 3 milliamperes. The unit requires heat dissipation of 12.6 British Thermal Units (BTU) per hour. It is usually mounted in a chassis slot or as a remote I/O adapter in a remote I/O chassis allowing complete remote access and control to ControlLogix modules - input, output, analog, and special purpose modules. The 1756-ENBT is backward compatible and is not equipped with any rotary switches.
