The Rockwell 1764-DAT belongs to the MicroLogix 1500 Programmable Controllers controllers line. The line features programmable controllers that are made of the following components: base units, accessories and processors. This module is an accessory. The DAT or Data Access Tool is an optional tool for the MicroLogix controllers, that is meant to provide a simple and convenient interface in order to monitor and edit data on the programmable controller. The tool allows the access (to either monitor or edit) to 48 bit elements and 48 integer elements of the controller. The Data Access Tools has a digital display that is meant to display data values, elements and even controller’s fault and errors for a direct feedback to the user. Using the Up/Down keys the user can easily navigate through the element numbers and change data values; these keys allow also scroll functions when held down. With the BIT and INT keys the operator can choose to navigate bit or integer values; when one of these data types is selected, the corresponding indicator will light up. If a selected element is read-only and cannot be edited the PROTECTED indicator will light up. The ENTER key is used to confirm a selection or a modification to the value of an element. The module also provides two additional function keys (F1 and F2); each key has 2 corresponding bits that will have the button work either as pushbuttons or latched pushbuttons, in order to provide added functionalities to the system. The insertion or removal of this module under power is allowed.

The Allen-Bradley 1764-DAT is considered an optional component for MicroLogix 1500. It is found at the front of almost all MicroLogix 1500 controllers. Among all the other MicroLogix, the MicroLogix 1764-LSP or 1764-LRP controllers are the best-suited ones. Users need to attach this data access tool to the base unit. It helps industry workers with many different functions and local visualization needs such as monitoring, testing, parameter configuration, and unit status. The Allen-Bradley 1764-DAT comes with a liquid crystal display (LCD). The screen comes with two built-in keys, the F1 and F2 keys. Along with the two function keys, the controller also comes with an entry, an escape, one up, and one down button. The buttons are part of the operator input area. This DAT is widely used for adjustment and monitoring purposes of PLC programs. For viewing the PLC errors, clearing, and testing different functions, this DAT is an ideal pick. The Allen-Bradley 1764-DAT also comes with support for the implementation of user program access. This security measure allows this DAT 48-integer elements and 48-bit elements. The Allen-Bradley 1764-DAT can be used to modify the operating needs of the PLC controller. If the programming workstation is missing for any reason, users can alter their communication parameters using this DAT as well. For safe usage, it is advised that the Allen-Bradley 1764-DAT should not be removed from the PLC when connected to a power source. It does not come with a dedicated memory of its own. Due to its advanced configuration, it complies with a variety of standard regulatory agencies including, MARINE-BVS, MARINE-DNV, and MARINE-GL.
