Part Number 40185-800-01 was designed and manufactured by Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley and is a thermal type Eutectic Alloy overload relay that protects motors, motor controllers and power wirings from overcurrent that result in overheating. This unit operates at an adjustable current range of 5.7 to 18 amperes, 12 to 38 amperes, and 14 to 45 amperes for manual reset overload relay type. The automatic/manual reset overload relay type with phase loss protection offers the same level of protection at the same current range.

Allen-Bradley’s 40185-800-01 is designed to be mounted directly on the mounting plate of the starter module. It is connected to the block and base assembly and load lines of the full voltage starter. The relay is secured in place on its mounting plate by 2 washers and screws. Fitted with an optical indicator that is visible as soon as the relay trips, it houses a manual contact test module on the right-hand side that allows for the opening of the normally closed (N.C.) overload contact for testing purposes without causing the relay to trip. Additionally, a normally open or normally closed auxiliary contact may be field added. This device type requires the installation of three heater elements based on the full load rating of the protected device. To remove this relay’s test module, use appropriate screwdriver inserting into provided slot on the test module until it bottoms. Next, slide the test module rightwards before sliding the replacement into place and finally pressing the new test module firmly until it fits in properly.
