Part number 2097-R4 is a shunt resistor unit that was designed and produced by Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation for the Kinetix 300/350 series of servo drives. It offers protection from potentially damaging voltage levels by dissipating the excessive regenerated energy in the drive. Providing 40 ohms of resistance and operating at a maximum continuous power level of 3.8 kilowatts, this device wires directly to the Kinetix 300/350 drive using its 7-pin BC quick-connector terminal block that is connected to the shunt/DC Bus terminal situated at the front side of the servo drive. The positive DC bus (BC-1 or 2) and BC-4 are the terminals that the shunt resistor is connected to. Additionally, the BC connector wiring has a strip length of 7 millimeters and a torque value of 0.5 Newton-meters. Replacement connector sets for the shunt resistor and DC bus header are made available with this unit.
Allen Bradley’s 2097-R4 can operate at 80 watts full load rated power at 77 degrees Fahrenheit if it is vertically mounted on a heatsink measuring 200 millimeters x 200 millimeters x 3 millimeters with side clearances of 12 millimeters and 50 millimeters below and above the device, respectively. It should be noted that this device is capable of reaching 200 degrees Celsius, thus installation in hard-to-reach areas, as well as away from flammable objects, is recommended. Part number 2097-R4 is fitted with 14 AWG 500-millimeter-long flying leads that measure 150 millimeters x 137 millimeters x 110 millimeters. It weighs approximately 0.2 kilograms and has an application duty cycle of 2.10 percent.
