Servo Controllers

Servo Controller (1394) Product Selection Guide

Servo Controllers are an essential part of a servo system. The 1394 Servo controllers are not only modular but also multi-axis mobility controller drive technologies. Motors, a monitoring network, and a servo controller are the three major parts of a servo system. The 1394 Servo controller has an operational frequency of fifty (50) to sixty (60) hertz, as well as a rated AC input voltage range of 324 to 528 Volts AC. The 1394 Servo Controllers have a module-to-module connection system, IGBT power conversion, and 3-phase input power. An ambient temperature range of 0 to 65 degrees Celsius is recommended where the controllers are to be mounted. At 1000 meters above sea level, the controllers may be used without suffering any degradation. Corrosive elements should not be present in the installation environment.

Increased feedback controllers and absolute multi-turn encoders are both included in these Servo Controllers. 1394 Servo Controllers can synchronize complicated motion applications. The 1394 controllers also offer Remote I/O, enabling 1394 devices to talk to positional controllers, as well as various RIO devices that are compatible with Allen-Bradley products. The droop control function, a speed control mode utilized in an AC system, is a feature of the 1394 servo controllers. The 1394 controllers include LED signals that light up when a malfunction occurs. When errors happen, a restore button is provided to restart the controllers. On the outside of 1394 controllers, there is one LED for the system module and one LED for each axis module.

Advantages of the 1394 Servo Controller That Make it Stand Out

Affordability of the Controller

The Allen-Bradley 1394 servo controller’s distinctive integral design provides the best multi-axis motion alternative: a much more affordable solution that is simple to deploy, connect, and use.

Simple Networking and Connections

These servo controllers often use the SERCOS fiber-optic network to communicate, and it is incorporated into the ControlLogix systems. There is a 1394 configuration to suit various requirements, whether the application needs the connection with Logix that a SERCOS interface mobility module offers, the simple networking that connects PLC and SLC systems to the 1394 action monitor, or a standalone 1394 servo drive.

Compact Design

Also included in the design of 1394 products is a slide-and-lock attachment that gets rid of as many as 100 separate wire endpoints amongst modules. An application-specific fit is made possible by the autonomous choice of the network power source plus axis drive energy rating. The system power generator's improved structure offers greater reliability with fewer components. Furthermore, flexible module arrangement is also available.

Major Features of the 1394 Servo Controller

With a regular selection of hardware, the 1394 Servo Controller accommodates Standard GMC, Turbo GMC, and Analog Servo arrangements. Various system inertias are supported by a digitally controlled velocity and current loop adjustment. It contains two programmable analog test outputs (GMC and Analog Servo system modules) that may be connected to important system variables for troubleshooting. Diagnostic tools, such as a current analyzer, overheat monitoring, and a response signal check, are provided by all systems. For encoder emulation, there is an encoder signal output (A QUAD B). It has processing capability with DSP assistance. On many of the system modules as well as axis modules, there are improved grounding terminations.

IGBT technology is available for effective, silent operation. It has ground fault protection, phase loss, and transient (MOV) voltage. There is a 200W shunt resistor built into it. A 1400W external shunt kit is readily accessible. A continuous torque range of 0.7 to 53.0 N-m is produced at 7.5, 4.5, and 3.0 amperes of continuous current at 50°C. Furthermore, this device has a 35-ampere and 23.3-ampere continuous current rating at 40°C. For most applications, direct line operation without an isolation transformer or inductors is sufficient. Advanced safety measures include soft current limiting that allows for safe operation.

For easy removal, as well as simple swapping during troubleshooting and diagnosis, there are system and axis modules. Axis modules come in standard widths of 50 mm and 75 mm. For simple installation and maintenance, contact-type terminal blocks and mass termination plugs are employed.

Bus bars and wire harnesses are not necessary since it connects modules using a slide-and-lock mechanism. The 1394 controller's advanced communications and I/O capabilities aid in integrating it with common plant floor networks.

Components of the 1394 System

One (1) system module, two (2) to four (4) axis modules, one (1) to four (4) servo motors, and one (1) to four (4) power and feedback connections make up the 1394 system. Along with the equipment listed above, there are two types of three-phase input devices: contactors and fuses with a 24-volt logic power, and a system module.

For 5 and 10-kilowatt systems with regenerative loads greater than 200 watts, an interior shunt resistor and an exterior shunt resistor kit are offered. The majority of 5 and 10-kilowatt systems won't need shunt resistor kits. An extra shunt module is required for all 22 kW 1394-based devices. Both 1394 and 8520-series products are included in this.

System Module

The system module holds the system management PCB and converts 360 to 480 VAC. Moreover, this is to convert 50 or 60-hertz inputs to a voltage range of 530 to 680 VAC. They are available with ratings of 5, 10, and 22 kilowatts at 460 volts. An exterior shunt module is required for the 22-kilowatt system module.  The AC-related current inputs of the 1394x-SJT05, 1394x-SJT10, and 1394x-SJT22 are 6.5 amperes, 13.0 amperes, and 28.6 amperes, respectively. The efficiency of the 1394x-SJT22 is around 98 percent while the 1394x-SJT05 and 1394x-SJT10 have an efficiency of 99 percent. The line loss for all three of the modules is 20 milliseconds. Circuit Breakers

Circuit breakers, as well as fuses, provide some benefits for the drive system but do not satisfy safety needs completely. Circuit breakers are unable to handle a large inrush current. There is a need to safeguard the 1394 system with the help of a device that possesses a short circuit interrupt current rating of up to 100000 amperes. Supplementary circuit safety equipment, such as the 1492 series, may be utilized as the sole 1394 branch circuit safety equipment if an upstream circuit safety device is rated for the overload current and short circuit ratings. The fully rated instrument let-through must be below or equivalent to the 10 kiloamperes of the 1492's interrupt rating.

Motors (1326 AB)

These highly efficient, medium-inertia, 3-phase servo motors have a unique casing that shortens the length of the motor. They come with steady torque levels ranging from 2.3 to 53.0 N-m. When utilized in conjunction with an oil seal kit, an IP65 protective rating is normal.

Motors (1326 AS)

Neodymium boron iron permanent magnet rotors, which provide small inertia and maximum acceleration, are a hallmark of this family of highly efficient servo motors. They come with continuous torque levels ranging from 0.49 to 49.3 N-m. For a shaft oil seal, an IP65 safety rating becomes necessary for these motors.
